(BlackMediaScoop) Southern California police were under siege Thursday by a crazed ex-cop who made good on his pledge to wage war on anyone with a badge — killing one of three officers he shot at in predawn ambushes.
Christopher Dorner, 33, who was fired from the Los Angeles Police Department in 2008 after falsely accusing a fellow officer of brutality, promised in a chilling manifesto to “bring unconventional and asymmetrical warfare to those in the LAPD uniform.”
“When the truth comes out, the killing stops,” he wrote. The unhinged killer also sent CNN anchor Anderson Cooper a package last week containing a DVD and a Post-it note reading, “I never lied,” the network said. The parcel additionally contained a bullet-riddled LAPD souvenir coin, one of thousands former L.A. Police Chief Bill Bratton handed out. Cooper said he didn’t know of the package’s existence until Thursday.
As Dorner increasingly spun out of control and the frenzy level to catch him rose Thursday, Torrance, Calif., cops opened fire on a truck similar to Dorner’s, wounding two women delivering newspapers. LAPD Chief Charlie Beck said the shooting was a “case of mistaken identity.” Dorner, a former Navy Reserve lieutenant with sniper skills, also made good on his vow to slaughter relatives of cops he believed wrecked his law enforcement career because he bucked “the thin blue line.”
