(blackmediaSCOOP) The women on “The View” had an interesting back and forth Monday about whether or not Herman Cain should have used the n-word as he talked about Rick Perry.
Cain on Sunday called it “insulting” that the family of Rick Perry leased a hunting camp with a racially charged name well into the 1980s and possibly even later.
According to a Washington Post, the hunting camp leased by the Texas governor was branded with the name “N*ggerhead.” The word — reportedly on a rock at the entrance of the 1,070-acre parcel — has been painted over and the camp renamed.
Perry has said it was changed in 1983 or 1984, but others suggest it may not have been covered until later — with one person estimating for the Post that it was as late as 2008.
As she recapped the news, Whoopi Goldberg used the full version of the word.
Then, Barbara Walters repeated the full word and Sherri Shepherd was immediately upset.
“I didn’t like the way you said it,” said Shepherd. “I don’t know if it’s a semantics thing… but something just goes through my body. When you say it, it’s a different connotation.”
When Walters protested, Shepherd shrugged it off: “I could never explain the way I feel.”
But Walters kept going back to it — and Shepherd kept hitting back. Watch
What do you think? Should people use “n-word” or call it what it is?
